Every Day Money Decisions

1️⃣ The “24-Hour Want Check” — no exceptions
If you want something that costs more than $10:
wait one day before buying.
Most of the time, you’ll realize you didn’t actually want it, you just wanted the vibe it gave you.
Brain trick:
Your dopamine “want feeling” only lasts a short time.
If it survives 24 hours, it’s probably a real want and not an impulse.
2️⃣ Screenshot Instead of Check-Out
Saw something cool?
Instead of instantly buying it:
- take a screenshot
- add it to a “Maybe Later” album
- walk away
You still get the satisfaction of keeping it
and 70% of those screenshots…
you’ll never go back to.
3️⃣ Ask: “Am I buying the item… or the feeling?”

Examples:
- makeup for confidence
- shoes for social status
- gaming gear for belonging
- outfits for aesthetics
- snacks for boredom
- tech for excitement
When you name the emotion →you stop being controlled by it.
This is honestly maturity-level thinking.
4️⃣ Create a Monthly “Fun Budget”
Example:
“I get $30 this month for whatever I want.”
Then you can buy:
- nail sets
- stickers
- headphones
- hoodies
- keychains
- Xbox skins
- lip gloss
- protein bars
- small accessories
NO guilt.
NO stress.
NO chaos.
Just boundaries.
5️⃣ Do the Math Out Loud : this one HITS
Example:
“$5 boba × 4 times a month = $20.”
“$12 lunch × 5 school days = $60 a week!”
“$18 lipstick × 4 = $72 I could’ve saved.”
Hearing the numbers in your head
makes impulsive purchases suddenly feel dumb.
6️⃣ Compare to Your Bigger Goal

What’s your real goal?
- a laptop
- a car
- a first apartment
- a new phone
- a savings buffer
- a bike
- a Talaria MX4
- College fund
- or just $$ to feel secure
Ask:
“Does this little purchase help or delay my big goal?”
This is how teens become adults with actual money.
Real talk…
Impulse buying isn’t a moral failing.
It’s literally your brain seeking tiny dopamine hits.
But if you start controlling your impulses at 15–18?
Your 20-year-old self will THANK YOU.
They’ll have more money and LESS stress.
And That’s a Wrap!
You don’t have to be a perfect saver.
Just learn to pause, think, and choose.
You’re leveling up your financial game, one habit at a time.
